Unlocking value from mining waste streams

Is it possible that mine waste streams could host concentrations of critical and high-tech metals? What challenges exist to economically recover these metals? How could technology address variability in grades, characterisation and dispersion of these metals across a broad range of waste sites?

We were contributors in addressing these questions as part of a concept study to explore the potential and capture existing industry and research activity focused on transforming mining waste into valuable products.


The findings note that valorisation of mining waste streams could drive broader industry development opportunities that link traditional extractive industries to emerging downstream sectors and support carbon emissions reduction objectives.

The study explored the opportunity to apply learnings and set a strategy at an early stage to enable new project development and highlight infrastructure considerations.
